The Tale of Two Shops

Pacos now has two established locations. Truckee has been the longtime home base of Pacos until recently when a Midtown Sacramento location was added. Truckee and Sacramento are now home base for Pacos retail locations and if you peel back just one or two pages of the book you will roll into a classic coming home story.

Pacos current owner, Russell Hamby, grew up in Sacramento (Sac, Sactown) and paid his dues working at City Bike in Downtown while riding and racing around the area in his youth. Russell later climbed into a professional racing career with the Sierra Nevada/Kodak team in the early 2000’s among other northern California cyclist notables.

Russell holds a special place for his home town and was recently drawn to opening a new Pacos location near his old stomping grounds. The Sacramento store has become the central nervous system of both Pacos store locations. It’s easy to access from MidTown and is located on the infamous River Ride road route making it a perfect place to visit for a weekend ride break from your normal winter routine.

In addition, the Sacramento store location houses other specialist service providers. There are bike fitters, coach/trainers, and suspension gurus all working in an open and collaborative  format seeking to create synergy in a custom retail environment. This collaborative business format gives customers a more rounded support framework should they choose to lean into the sport of bike racing, to rebuild or customize their suspension, or to build a new dream bike, bike fits and the list continues. 

Russell’s youthful history in the Sacramento area runs deep which is why he chose to name the beer bar in the shop “Heaven” to pay homage to one of his close friends/mentor, the late Mike Turner. That’s right, there’s also a beer bar. “The Sacramento area helps complete my childhood bike shop dreams with a store in MidTown Sacramento near the state capital where I grew up and up in Truckee where I now live with my wife and 10 year old daughter.” - Russell Hamby.
