Donner Lake Rim Trail

A new section of singletrack has opened up. Known at large as the Donner Lake Rim Trail, a recently completed section of trail runs right above the bike shop and connects all the way up to the Drifter Hut. The trail could lead you into Johnson Valley or into Tahoe Donner but the views along the way are what really interests us.
Once you pedal approximately halfway up you begin to see Donner Lake from a new vantage point. Looking down onto the lake gives you a great perspective of the area, the shape of the entire lake, as well as the mountain peaks that lie in the distance. From the new section of Donner Lake Rim Trail you can see down the Sierra as well as up over Castle Peak.
The new section of trail can be ridden as a great after work ride into the sunset. We recommend riding it as an out and back so that you can conveniently begin and end right at the bike shop for a cold beer. Another option could be to take the new section of Donner Lake Rim Trail up to the Drifter Hut and down to Donner Lake for a quick swim and then you could follow Donner Pass Road right back into town for a smooth cool down.
The possibilities are endless, you could also connect to Hole in the Ground and beyond. A big high-five goes out to everyone that made this trail possible. The Pacos crew wants to especially thank the Truckee Donner Land Trust for their vision and tireless work spanning decades, to create the Donner Lake Rim Trail.

If you are looking for more information and route specifics you can call the shop (just ask for Russell since this is his favorite new ride) or, visit the Truckee Donner Land Trust website for a wealth of information about trail stats and the history behind the effort.
